Get to know Casoli and Abruzzo
The town of Casoli is a typical small town in Italy. Houses with narrow alleys are clustered around the ducal castle and parish church. Perched on a hill to the right of the Aventine River,it has a beautiful view of the valley. On the other side, however, you can see in the distance Mount Amaro and the Majella massif. Casoli’s strong point is also the proximity of the sea. A 30-minute drive takes us to the sandy beaches and the Adriatic Sea.
There are three central churches in the city. Church of Santa Reparata, patroness of Casoli, Church of San Rocco and the Parish Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Adjacent to the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore is the Ducal Castle or Castello Masciantonio. Owned by the Orsini family in the 14th century, it was always a point of reference for Casoli. With its fortified walls and elevated position it still has the view and control of the surrounding country to this day. The castle is open to the public and is worth visiting all year round.
Today, all the walls, towers and gates surrounding the ancient centre are no longer visible. However, you can see the architectural difference between the historic centre and the later developed city. For those who love Italian towns, elevated on hills with beautiful views and a sense of community, Casoli is the right place to design their own home.
Casoli is best known for the production of olive oil,which accompany almost all typical dishes. The culinary specialty is lamb alla casolana. Reduced to small pieces, the lamb is cooked in a pan and enriched by the scents of local herbs. Another typical dish is stewed cod. This dish accompanies pasta with sardines and turnip tops, traditionally prepared for Christmas Eve. As in Abruzzo, there is no shortage of famous pizzelle and cazzarielli. For those who love the abruzzo cuisine, Casoli can offer many delicacies in all seasons of the year.

The 1 Euro House Project in Casoli
The 1 Euro House project was launched already in 2018, when the Municipality of Casoli managed to assign only one lot.
Buyers who are interested in buying and renewing houses for 1 euro must:
- Express their will by formal declaration of interest.
- Deposit the project for renovation and redevelopment no later than 3 months after the conclusion of the contract of sale.
- Complete the conclusion of the contract of sale with the private seller within 2 months from the approval of the assignment documents.
- Start work no later than the deadline and complete it no later than 3 years after the start of the work.
- Take out a special surety policy in favor of the Municipality, of the amount € 5,000.00,for interventions worth up to € 50,000.00, of the amount of € 10,000.00 for interventions of higher value, valid for 3 years.
Buyers can be both individuals and companies. The interest is not limited to those who want to renovate a house for their own use, but also for those who want to create a B&B or do other activities within the chosen home.
