Houses for sale for 1€: The map of Italian municipalities where you can buy them

From the south to the north of the Italian peninsula, houses that would otherwise be abandoned or destroyed are sold by private citizens, or more often by municipalities, for the symbolic amount of 1€. The aim is to get new owners, who will invest in renovation and recovery work, to give new life to the properties and places where they are located. Gangi,in the province of Palermo, was elected the most beautiful village in Italy in 2014. And yet, the historic centre of this charming Sicilian village, with the passage of time, has experienced a kind of abandonment and many of its houses have ended in ruin. With the aim of recovering and enhancing the heart of this town, in 2015 thetown’s sindicate decided to allocate for free old properties for tourist-receptive or residential purposes.
