Get to know the city of Santi Cosma and Damiano
Santi Cosma e Damiano is a town of about 6000 inhabitants in the province of Latina. It is the southernmost of the municipalities in the province of Latina. With Castelforte it forms practically a single center that dominates the plain of Garigliano.
The municipality is part of the Mountain Community of the Aurunci Mountains. It is located partly on one of the hilly slopes of the mountains and partly in the plain of Garigliano.
The name comes from the name of the two Saints Cosma and Damian,brothers and doctors, beheaded near Antioch under the empire of Diocletian. Popular tradition has it that the two saints passed through these lands on their journey to Rome and that they stayed in a cave where a chapel was built in their honor, which over the centuries has become the current patronal church.

Heritage and history of Santi Cosma and Damiano
The historical and architectural heritage includes some interesting churches, among which the mother church of Saints Cosma and Damiano, from the Baroque period, stands out. Of the ancient buildings, almost all destroyed during the terrible bombings of the Second World War, the Ribaldi Palace and the Church of Saints Cosma and Damianoremain visible.
In the highest part of the village is the hamlet of Ventosa where a beautiful tower and the remains of other watchtowers and defense are visible. It preserves the craftsmanship of the litter, a type of perennial grass very resistant and widespread in the area. This is expertly woven by local artisans and turns into doormats, extruding, bags, hats and more.
Important to remember is that the municipality of Santi Cosma e Damiano is located in a strategic position both for walks in the hills and to enjoy the sea a 23-minute drive away. It is about 2 hours from the eternal city of Rome and 1 hour from Naples.
The sancosemese cuisine
The traditional sancosemese cuisine is quite rich and prefers particularly intense flavors, but simple, as the peasant origin wants. Very tasty is the laina, that is, a mixture of durum wheat flour, water and salt, without egg yolk. The dough must become a pastry, then wrapped and cut into classic wide and thick fettuccine, to be seasoned with meat sauce. Known is the local bread that looks like a white focaccia; in fact a pizza made with natural yeast and cooked in a wood oven, much appreciated and sought after by tourists.

The objective of the Municipality of Santi Cosma e Damiano, is to recover and enhance properties located in the historic center of Santi Cosma e Damiano e Ventosa for which the owners have demonstrated and demonstrate their willingness to free sale in favor of Agencies and / or Companies and / or Associations and individuals available to invest in an overall project of recovery and enhancement of the historic center. They are waiting for the participation of private individuals who want to get rid of dilapidated and unused properties to be put up for sale.
As part of the activities related to the realization of the project, the Municipality plays the role of the main bearer of public interests
Buyers who apply for acquisition must:
- Conclude a public deed of purchase of the property within two months from the enforceability of the determination of approval of the allocation ranking;
- Incur all the costs for the drafting of the transfer document (notaries, registration, volture, stacking, etc.);
- Prepare the renovation and recovery project of the property, acquiring all the necessary opinions, within 3 years from the date of purchase;
- Start work within two months of the date of issue of the building permit;
- Stipulate a surety policy, in favor of the Municipality, in the amount of € 2000, valid for three years, to guarantee the concrete realization of the works.
