1 euro. It Is enough to buy out houses, often whole farmsteads, all over Italy. Inland, in many small villages, depopulated and yet so beautiful. Of Course, you need a little more than that in your pocket: these are ruins to renovate, sometimes rebuild from scratch. It is the project of the 1 Euro Houses (Case a 1 Euro), an idea brought up by some mayors to revive the territories, “and today it has spread to 25 municipalities, with more than 2000 public and private properties for sale for 1 euro throughout Italy: we alone have already sold 7 and more and more foreigners are expressing their interest”, explains Michele Giannini, mayor of Factories of Vergemoli, a village of 700 souls in the hills of Tuscany, province of Lucca. This is where we went: we visited one of these houses, met the owners, we got to learn how it all works. By Giulia Destefanis
