The 1 euro houses project in Penne, a town of about 11,000 inhabitants in the province of Pescara, is registering unprecedented interest internationally.
The initiative, which aims to combat depopulation and redevelop the historic center, has attracted the attention of buyers from all over the world.
In less than two weeks, the municipal office has received about 1,700 emails of requests, both from Italy and abroad. The news, recently released by the US network CNN, has generated a wave of requests from all over the world. The main objective of the project is to offer properties at the symbolic price of one euro, with the commitment to renovate them within three years of purchase.

To the Municipality of Penne
The mayor of Penne, Gilberto Petrucci, explained that the municipality had to set up the “1 euro houses” office to manage the requests and carry out the paperwork.
The project, which started 2 years ago, has gone viral thanks to a startup that now collaborates with the municipality. The 1 euro houses and Penne project is not an isolated case; Several Italian villages have undertaken similar initiatives to combat depopulation and promote the redevelopment of their real estate assets.
The municipality of Penne is part of the association “Most beautiful villages in Italy” and for years has been dealing with depopulation that has threatened the beauty and integrity of many houses that have remained empty. The councilor for urban planning Antonio Baldacchini explained that the price of one euro can only be maintained for residences that vex in a state of total uninhabitability. For other structures, the figures can reach up to about 20 thousand or 30 thousand euros.
