Welcome to the Municipality of Petrella Tifernina, a charming village located in the province of Campobasso, has recently launched the “1 euro houses” initiative to revitalize its historic center and counteract depopulation. This project aims to recover uninhabited and dilapidated properties, offering the opportunity for new residents or entrepreneurs to invest in renovation and settlement in the country.
The “1 Euro Houses” initiative
With council resolution no. 23 of 27 February 2025, the municipal administration led by Mayor Alessandro Amoroso launched the “Petrella Tifernina – 1 Euro Houses” project. The main objective is to attract new residents and promote tourist-accommodation, commercial or craft activities in the historic center. Owners of abandoned properties can transfer them to the Municipality at the symbolic price of one euro, thus freeing themselves from the burden of maintenance and associated taxes. Buyers, in turn, undertake to renovate the properties within a set period, contributing to the recovery of the local building stock.

Know Petrella Tifernina
In addition to the opportunity offered by the initiative, Petrella Tifernina boasts an important historical and cultural heritage. The town is known for the Church of San Giorgio Martire, dating back to the twelfth century and considered a significant example of Romanesque architecture in Molise. The church has a rich sculptural decoration and an interior divided into three naves with semicircular apses. The monolithic baptismal font and the crypt dedicated to St. George are among the prominent elements of the building.
Walking through the alleys of the village, visitors can immerse themselves in an atmosphere of yesteryear, admiring evocative views of the Biferno valley and discovering characteristic corners that tell the story of local history and traditions.
THE KITCHEN – In Petrella Tifernina they also love good food, as can be seen from the appetizing typical dishes: priest’s hats, frascatelli, petacce, homemade pasta seasoned with ricotta and fried bacon, ricciata, prepared with wheat, corn and boiled chickpeas, sweet u piccellato, pasta mixed with eggs, lard, sugar and yeast.
In honor of St. Joseph , a lunch of 13 various courses is set up, with legumes cooked in many ways and in the typical clay potholes. An event not to be missed!

The 1 euro houses project in Petrella Tifernina
The object of the 1 euro houses initiative in Petrella Tifernina, are the privately owned buildings, not inhabited or habitable, in evident conditions of structural, static, hygienic-sanitary degradation, belonging to subjects who, not interested in investing in this resource, express the desire to join the initiative of the Municipality and get rid of it, even at a symbolic price, especially because of the tax burden that weighs on these properties.
The Municipality is therefore waiting for adhesions to the sale at the symbolic price of these properties. Also included are privately owned buildings, not inhabited, but habitable, which, although not in evident conditions of structural, static, hygienic-sanitary degradation, belong to subjects not interested in investing in this resource.
